Preparing for your photoshoot
Preparing for you photoshoot
Thank you for booking me for your photo shoot. I am excited to get to know you and your family. I know we will have an amazing time together. Here are a few pointers in preparing for your photo shoot.
I will begin by stating that the best preparation for your photo shoot is to be well-rested, be on time, and have fun.
PREPARATION BEFORE YOUR PHOTOSHOOT
Have everything you intend to wear ironed and clean the night before. Wearing wrinkle-free clothes can help.
EAT SOMETHING
Eat! Before leaving for your photoshoot make sure that you and your family eat something so that you won’t be hungry while doing your shoot. For small kids also pack a snack that will not make their clothes dirty.
GROOMING
Toes and fingers should be groomed and clean. For portfolios and actor/model headshots nails should be natural in color (light pink, french, nude, etc). For family portraits and others, they can be of any color. However, you should be careful that the color of your nails doesn’t detract from your face and you as the main subject.
HYDRATE
For everyone, lips should not be dry; teeth should be clean and eyebrows groomed. If necessary, bring along a lip moisturizer or balm with you. Your lips always look better when they are moist.
HAIR AND MAKE-UP
Bring a comb or brush with you to touch up your hair during the shoot, make-up and hair should be done before the shoot.
WHAT TO WEAR:
Probably the most frequently asked question when prepping for a photoshoot is “What do we wear?” This is a great question, and good wardrobe choices can enhance your photos. We like to suggest using the following guidelines when choosing what to wear.
CONFIDENCE
Confidence and comfort! While we are not suggesting that you wear your tracksuits because they are comfortable, we are suggesting that you feel comfortable and confident in your outfit. Clothes should fit properly, and you should feel good in them.
LABELS
Avoid logos and labels! These can often be distracting in photos. We want the primary focus to be you, and not your shirt.
PATTERNS
Embrace color and patterns! Colors, plaids, checks, stripes are all great! How boring would it be if everyone only wore black or white for photos? The trick is not to have too many patterns going on at one time and to coordinate colors with the patterns. Bold colours like jewel tones add depth and warmth to a photo. Bright colours can add light and fun to photos but keeping things simple is usually the better way to go.
LAYERS
Layers work wonders! Layering is a great way to add texture to a photograph. A button-up over a t-shirt, a jacket, or a vest, these things add dimension and texture to a photograph.
JEWELLERY
Accessorise! Jewellery, scarves, ties, hats, you name it. These are great ways to personalise and put finishing touches on an outfit.
BE ON TIME
We suggest you plan to be at least 10 min early for your photoshoot, this way you won’t be stressed about the time and if you do get caught in traffic or can’t find parking you won’t be late.
ASK US
When in doubt ask us, we’d be happy to help you.
If you find any ideas in magazines or other places that you like, you can send us the pictures and we can recreate them and put your twist on them. Don’t hesitate to discuss your ideas and preferences with me.
